Someone did mention the idea of plastic fatigue to me so you might want to learn a little more about it just to make sure the car seat is still safe. But since yours is treated especially gently and hasn't sat through major heat fluctuations, I'm going to guess it's fine.

We are still going to accept the hand me down car seat by the way. It's about 4 years old so still within the safety period. We're going to buy brand new ones for my car (the primary childcare car) and put any hand me downs in either my husbands car or my parents car since the kids will very rarely be in either of those.AlexMMRhttp://ugabugabowls.artfire.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1574605296259081338.post-67474596810691853642010-11-20T04:28:42.162-08:002010-11-20T04:28:42.162-08:00I may get flack for this but my baby is in an infa...I may get flack for this but my baby is in an infant carseat that is almost 6yrs old. I, too, have heard of the 5yr rule. Here is my stand on it. The car seat is an infant one; not one that permanently stays in the van. It gets hauled inside the house and that is where it mainly stays. The car seat was first used (brand new) 5-1/2 yrs ago and was used for 7 months. I was the only owner of it and know exactly how the car seat was treated. Nothing has been comprimised with it, wasn't in accidents, cleaned up when needed, wasn't baking in the heat of the car, etc. When it was being stored for 4+yrs, it was in a dark closet in the bedroom...no extreme heat or light conditions there. I say, use common sense and good judgement. I have nothing against the buying of a new car seat but when you know exactly how a used one was used and the conditions it was in, Use it!elizabethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05715649770783806809noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1574605296259081338.post-32350811699105548002010-11-18T07:21:04.283-08:002010-11-18T07:21:04.283-08:00Agh! Yes you need to mourn the loss of your ability to do what you please. Hell, I miss living alone! It doesn't mean your not excited to be a mom but its a huge change in a persons life We don't have to be martyrs to BE GOOD MOMS. Wanting to save a buck by using an inherited car seat(even though you cant due to expiration) isn't a sin! My kids didn't have brand name crap and they turned out fine so far They grow out of baby stuff so quickly anyway. Save it for when they are older and want American Girl dolls and Nintedo DSI...Sorry to write a novel in addition to your own, but you need to feel supported whilst pregnant. Good riddance of that "friend".Ashleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08049164187594211423noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1574605296259081338.post-51083679737387601252010-11-18T06:57:07.475-08:002010-11-18T06:57:07.475-08:00You are right to let her go. I'm sorry that you lost who you had thought for 4 years was a friend, but it looks like good riddance.

I have a theory about the car seat thing though. I think that with all of the heat fluctuations, particularly in the summer, the plastic gets compromised. I had a plastic earring rack in my husband's truck for a couple of days, and it warped. So it wouldn't surprise me if that's the case with the car seats. Just a guess though.Lindsayhttp://www.beadsbylindsay.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1574605296259081338.post-63270127874586565952010-11-18T06:40:05.739-08:002010-11-18T06:40:05.739-08:00I really feel for you. I know what it's like ...I really feel for you. I know what it's like to be convinced that someone is awesome, let them have prime real estate in your heart, and then they go and blow up the whole property leaving a smoking crater where a lot of love once was. All I can say is, it's not your fault. She wasn't acting like a real friend.G33K GODDESShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11506355416802611015noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1574605296259081338.post-1027322976525638232010-11-17T20:59:36.918-08:002010-11-17T20:59:36.918-08:00Ah, welcome to the world of mommier-than-thou. Children with cantankerous moms like you, Alex, grow into the most delightfully independent, headstrong, WONDERFUL people (I know from experience). You'll be a GREAT mom!Cool Straps Custom Handmade Guitar Strapshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15768676863725936078noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1574605296259081338.post-35961239632009922172010-11-17T20:18:59.384-08:002010-11-17T20:18:59.384-08:00A true friend accepts you and appreciates you for ...A true friend accepts you and appreciates you for your differences, they don't expect you to always have the same thoughts and beliefs as they do. A true friend will talk things through, not let it fester. A true friend would NEVER discuss problems with the friendship with your husband; that's probably the most insulting thing of all! I'm sorry that you gave your friendship and trust to this person because she is obviously so wrapped up in her own perceptions of the world and motherhood that she can't see we aren't all Stepford mothers. I hope you find a mommy friend that believes, like a normal person, that people still have lives beyond their children. She'll never survive the empty nest.Susanna Originalshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07158392727581242565noreply@blogger.com
